What most children do at this age:  12 months

Self-Care Skills
·Eats 3-4 meals per day
·Naps 2 times per day
·Feeds finger foods, holds spoon, holds cup to drink
·Extends arms/legs to dress
·Pulls socks off
·Drools less (except when teething)
·Eats are variety of textures and flavors
·Tolerates a variety of clothing
·Enjoys moving body to different rhythms
 
Communication Skills
·Points to objects to identify
·Uses approximately 3 words
·Raises arms to be picked up
·Uses simple gestures like shaking head no
·Says mama and dada
·Makes sounds with changes in tone
·Follows a simple direction such as pick up the toy


Social and Play Skills
·Is shy with strangers
·Cries when mom or dad leaves
·Enjoys board books with simple pictures 
·Engages in imitative play
·Observes other children
·Finds hidden objects

Fine Motor Skills
·Bangs things together 
·Uses finger and thumb to pick up small objects
·Uses a fisted grasp on a crayon to make a mark on paper
·Takes objects out and puts objects in

·Pokes or points using one finger


Gross Motor Skills
·Creeps 
·Stands independently
·Begins to kneel
·Takes steps towards walking
·Walks with both hands held
·Walks sideways while holding onto furniture
